The Joys of Start With Art!

As a part of the Corn Hall’s Elephant Project, this month’s ‘Start With Art’ session was also elephant themed. The sessions tied in with the work being exhibited in the Upper and Lower Galleries.
As a volunteer, I helped the kids to make a large animal safari landscape with handprints. It was a wonderful opportunity to encourage young children of all ages to have fun and be confident and creative in an arts environment.

Along with Emma, I volunteered to help with the Start with Art! I lead the curvy clay station, helping the young artists paint with clay in the style of the ceramicist Kate Welton. The experience was incredibly fun and interesting, I loved seeing how imaginative the kids were and how brilliant their outcomes where
Another one of the activities on show was the skin texture station, run by professional print maker Jacqui in the style of artist Rachel Wiles’ work, the beautiful blue – toned elephant skin. The kids were allowed to experiment with unusual and different techniques of print – making, allowing them to develop their ideas and widen their creativity.
The overall experience resulted in many happy children who left proudly clutching their creations. The Herd of Elephant’s collaborative piece is hanging in the café for all too see until the end of the summer holidays. Please come and see how brilliant it looks!
