Time with Friends: August

Time with Friends: August
Today our Time with Friends Dementia Cafe group met to enjoy a belated VE Day celebration, postponed from last year.

We were fortunate to have Gary and Mary Alderton with us to show and talk about their large selection of memorabilia from the 40s and 50s.  Gary has been collecting since he was young and many items belonged to his parents and grandparents.  Gary’s talk was very interesting and we were able to look closely at the items afterwards and ask questions.  Vivian and Bill loved ‘reminders of that age’ while Winsome said the talk was ‘enjoyable and informative’.

Jacqui Petrie then led us through an art activity, teaching the use of watercolour in a relaxed and calming atmosphere and at times a pin might be heard dropping, such was the quiet and concentration in the group.  Jacqui had previously taught on cruise ships and Julie said of the activity: ‘it is helping me to relax.’

A wholesome and hearty lunch was then served by the Corn Hall Cafe and hopefully everyone got home before the heavens opened!  Thanks to the Norfolk Armed Forces Covenant grant that made this possible.

Our next meeting is Monday 13th September and if you would like more details please contact Carole Hunt at The Corn Hall by email: carole.hunt@thecornhall.co.uk or call 01379 654421.
