Dancing at Lughnasa
by Brian Friel
Five sisters live out their lives in rural Ireland in the 1930s, hoping beyond hope for events which will free them from their domestic isolation. A huge hit in the 1990s in London’s West End and on Broadway when it won a slew of awards, the play is both magical and tragic as the sisters aspire gamely to a happiness they will never achieve.
Music and songs from the period adorn this theatrical gem set around the Celtic festival of Lughnasa.
