Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (12A)
Venue: Diss High School
Directed by David Yates, UK/USA, 2016, 133 mins
With Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Morton, Katherine Waterston
The year is 1926 and writer Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a short visit, he might have come and gone without incident, were it not for a No-Maj named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt's fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
In spite of first appearances it’s clear that J K Rowling has a more serious and grown up audience in mind.
‘Fantastic Beasts does double-duty as yet another imagination-tickling fantasy adventure and a deeply troubled commentary on tolerance, fear and bigotry in the world today.’
