We are very sorry to have to inform you that, following updated Government guidelines issued earlier this evening, the Royal Opera House has taken the decision to close with immediate effect.
This means that tomorrow evening’s live broadcast of Fidelio to cinemas has been cancelled. All ROH main stage performances have been cancelled until further notice and the ROH cinema team have commented as follows:
‘’The safety and security of the Royal Opera House staff, audiences and artists is of paramount importance and we take this responsibility very seriously.
We hope to be able to make necessary arrangements to potentially re-screen this production of Fidelio at a later time. We will be in touch with any updates as soon as we have more information’’
We will be in touch with all those who have booked tickets either by phone or email but if you have any questions, please contact us on: [email protected]
Ludwig van Beethoven
Beethoven’s only opera is a masterpiece. With the compelling ingredients of domestic intrigue, determined love and the cruelty of an oppressive regime, it is ultimately an uplifting story of risk and triumph.
In this new production by Tobias Kratzer’s he brings together the dark reality of the French Revolutionary ‘Terror’ and our own time to illuminate Fidelio’s inspiring message of shared humanity. Jonas Kaufmann plays the political prisoner Florestan, and Lise Davidsen his wife Leonore – disguised as ‘Fidelio’ – who daringly sets out to rescue him.
