Flying Scotsman (15)
Director: Douglas Mackinnon, UK, 2006, 96 mins
Jonny Lee Miller, Laura Fraser, Brian Cox
A cycling Chariots of Fire, this film charts the remarkable true story of a cyclist who built his bicycle from old bits of scrap metal and washing machine parts and then went on to take, lose, and then retake the world one-hour distance record. Jonny Lee Miller is a revelation as Graeme Obreem, the Scotsman who not only tackled time trials, but also mental illness, and achieved record-breaking success.
Certainly a must see for cycling fans - the story will speak to anyone who has spent hours pedalling through the countryside or has challenged themselves to a 100 mile day - but also for anyone that has had to overcome challenges. The way Obreem meets his head on is an inspiration.
