Senior Screen – A United Kingdom (12A)

Venue: Corn Hall

Director Amma Asante, UK, 2016, 111 mins
With David Oyelowo, Rosamund Pike, Jack Davenport

Rosamund Pike is delightful as a clerk from South London who is swept off her feet by David Oyelowo’s handsome law student, unaware that he is soon to be an African King. This is a story so unlikely it could only be true, and brilliantly shines light on those dark times of prejudice, intolerance and political expediency immediately after the Second World War. A beautifully shot period drama, the film explores themes that couldn’t be more relevant today.
