In 1993 historian Deborah Lipstadt published Denying the Holocaust in which she declared David Irving “one of the most dangerous spokespersons for Holocaust denial” - Irving himself had published books in which he claimed that there had never been gas chambers at Auschwitz. What Lipstadt didn’t expect was Irving’s audacious response, to sue her for libel. Their landmark battle makes a compelling courtroom drama. At a time when ‘fake news’ and ‘denial’ are gaining purchase, this film could not be more relevant.
