Based on Saroo Brierley’s autobiography A Long Way Home, Lion tells the true and moving story of his separation from his family as a child and subsequent adoption by a Tasmanian couple. Garth Davis imbues Saroo’s world — even the slums of Calcutta — with a delicate, magical quality that in no way sterilises the reality of the drama. Patel finally delivers on the promise suggested by Slumdog Millionaire and Kidman is the most impressive she’s been in years.
