Textiles in Action – Kim Morgan

Venue: designermakers21 Gallery
Kim Morgan talks about the work of local Saori weavers; the inspiration and techniques used, and the philosophy behind Saori weaving.
Part of Textiles in Action Day,  a day of FREE talks and demonstrations covering a range of constructed textiles and focusing on weave. The events take place across two St Nicholas Street venues in Diss - The Corn Hall and designermakers21.
Please book your tickets in advance below.
Each artist talks for approx. 20 minutes about their work and the inspirations that underpin their designs and practice. Some talks will take the form of a discussion between two artists and questions from the audience at the end are encouraged.
The theme of sustainability is seen in much of the work on display and members of the public will be encouraged to reflect on the slow processes of constructed textiles and the time it takes to produce even a small piece of work. This has been a year of reflection for most of us. This day and the accompanying exhibitions across both venues enable viewers to take time to creatively engage and to feel inspired by colour, texture and form.

You will also be able to view the vibrant, beautiful and colourful display by local SAORI weavers.
Introducing weaving as a form of communication and free expression, SAORI weaving originates in Japan and encourages creativity through weaving in a way that is accessible to all regardless of age, gender, ability or experience. There are no rules or restrictions. There are no mistakes and no patterns to follow. Weavers just weave what they want with complete creative freedom. This exhibition unites SAORI weavers who have been weaving at The Saori Shed in Diss, showing the boundless and creative potential that exists within and connects us all.
