The Phantom of the Open
Venue: The Corn Hall
Director: Craig Roberts,
With Mark Rylance, Sally Hawkins, Jake Davies, Rhys Ifans
Maurice Flitcroft, a dreamer and unrelenting optimist, is a humble crane operator from Barrow-in-Furness who manages to gain entry to The British Open Golf Championship qualifying in 1976, despite never playing a round of golf before.
He shoots the worst round in Open history drawing the ire of the golfing elite, but becomes a folk hero in the process and, more importantly, shows his family the importance of pursuing their dreams.
