We're delighted that, alongside the exhibition of her work, Illustrator, cartoonist, and writer Gemma Correll has agreed to do a Question & Answer session in which you will be able to ask her more details about her work, the techniques and the subject matter she uses.
Gemma has created a series of comics addressing her own struggles with anxiety and depression, she hopes that by bringing a little humour into her illustrations, she’ll break down some of the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage others to be more open.
Not an easy task, but has struck a chord with many, resulting in a huge Instagram following of almost 1 million.
‘I honestly think that humour can be a saviour at times of distress, if you just live with a constant level of anxiety and depression like I do.
Gemma says "I suffer from clinical anxiety and depression and I find that the best way to deal with it is to find humour in it. I do think that people should speak more freely about anxiety. I know that I would have felt a little better as an anxiety-ridden teenager if I knew that I wasn’t completely alone in my fears.2
Gemma has published four books and illustrated many more. Her latest book 'It's a Pug's Life: Lessons in living and love' came out in 2022. She now lives in California with her husband and three rescue Pugs that continue to inspire her work. Her exhibition at the Corn Hall is entitled 'I Have No Idea What I'm Doing' . It is her first solo exhibition in the UK.
