Namvula is a singer-songwriter whose music explores cultural intersections and heartfelt storytelling. Drawing inspiration from the deep grooves of Africa, the lyrical sensibility of folk-pop, and the improvisational freedom of jazz, her sound reflects the nuances of her Zambian-Scottish heritage and a restlessness born of her diasporic upbringing. Her songs speak to the beauty and complexity of life—its tenderness and cruelty—while weaving in themes of identity, migration, and resilience. Influenced by strong women in her lineage, Namvula’s work often touches on issues like feminism, the climate emergency, and social justice. Described as “a true original” by The Guardian, Namvula has released critically acclaimed albums including Shiwezwa (Sunday Times Top 100 Albums of 2014) and Quiet Revolutions (“a contemporary masterpiece” – Jazz FM). Her latest project, All Shades of the Sun, continues her exploration of our shared humanity through music.
