Join us for a special screening of White Riot, a powerful documentary exploring how punk music helped shape political resistance in late-1970s Britain. The film tells the story of Rock Against Racism, a movement formed in 1976 in response to Eric Clapton's public support for Enoch Powell, and charts how musicians, artists and activists united against the rise of the National Front. Through a mix of archive footage and fresh interviews, White Riot captures the energy of a movement that grew from a small fanzine in Hoxton to the landmark 1978 anti-fascist carnival in Victoria Park, featuring artists including X-Ray Spex, Steel Pulse and The Clash.

The screening will be introduced by special guest Richard Balls, acclaimed music journalist and biographer, author of A Furious Devotion: The Life of Shane MacGowan, Sex & Drugs & Rock 'n' Roll and Be Stiff: The Stiff Records Story. Richard will take part in a post-film discussion, and the evening will also feature a vinyl DJ set from Reel Connections. Copies of The Stiff Records Story will be available to purchase at the event.

White Riot is part of the nationwide Rip It Up season, celebrating the changing face of youth rebellion, culture and expression on screen, from joy and creativity to protest and heartbreak. The Corn Hall Diss is pleased to be working in partnership with Creative Arts East for helping to programme screening presentations.
