Gary Delaney makes a triumphal return to Diss

Gary Delaney took the Corn Hall on a trip to Punderland for a second sold out night, delighting his audience with an exhausting, and seemingly inexhaustible, supply of gags.  With help from his warm up man Andy Robinson, he offered up more jokes in a couple of hours than other acts get through in an entire career. Even before we sat down, the fun started with a rolling slide show of snippets culled from his twitter account. A brief moment of sincerity then followed (he promised it would be an isolated incident) when he thanked the audience for keeping him in job. Thereafter, we were treated to an endless stream of one-liners that barely gave your jaw muscles the chance to recover.

Some of the gags were a little near the knuckle – the wicked humour of Jimmy Carr sprang to mind (with whom he shares a truly terrible laugh) – but on the evidence of the night, a Corn Hall audience is unshockable. There was also a generous helping of straightforward silliness – imagine a very rude Tim Vine and you’d be close to the mark. Throw in a daft slideshow of adulterated Wikipedia pages, Amazon reviews and road signs (you can probably guess what he made of the sign to Blo’ Norton) and a hilarious night out was guaranteed.
