Oaklands Care Home and Kingsley Home Care sponsor Diss Dementia Cafe

Kingsley Healthcare’s Oaklands Care Home has teamed up with sister company Kingsley Home Care to sponsor a thriving dementia café in Diss.

Time with Friends attracts up to 40 people to its meetings in The Corn Hall, St Nicholas Street, Diss, from 10am to 1pm on the second Monday of every month.

The sponsorship funds teas, coffees and a light lunch for everyone attending the free event.

To celebrate the partnership, Roxana Safta, home manager at Oaklands, in Norwich Road, Scole, attended the latest café on 11th November with her hospitality manager Tracey Pashley to hand out gift bags.

They were joined by Gerri Fincham, deputy manager at the Kingsley Home Care’s Waveney Valley branch in Mere Street, Diss.

Liz Renaut, who has helped to run the café for more than five years, said: “We are very grateful for the very generous Kingsley sponsorship.

“For people living with dementia and their carers, the café is a welcome opportunity to meet up with others and have a chat. As well as providing lunch we lay on an activities programme.”

As part of the partnership, people attending the café are invited to Oaklands’ afternoon tea from 2pm on the last Friday of every month.

At Monday’s event, Mrs Pashley also invited café goers to Oaklands’ “Countdown to Christmas” programme of events.

Miss Fincham said: “Everyone is also welcome to attend our monthly Beat Loneliness event. The first one will be taking place in our branch office from 10.30am on Wednesday, November 20 and the second one will be on Thursday, December 12 which is Christmas Jumper Day. We will be serving tea, coffee and cakes all day!

“After Christmas, the event will be on the third Wednesday of every month.”
